Mardi Gras

This past Mardi Gras, my French class had a party. Mardi Gras is a French holiday. Its holiday colors are yellow, green, and purple. Mardi Gras can also be called Fat Tuesday, or Shrove Tuesday. Both the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras marked the end of the pre-Lenten season.

Some foods that are made on Mardi Gras are: Kings cake, which is a cake that is shaped like a ring and is frosted with icing that are the Mardi Gras colors. Kings cake basically tastes like a cinnamon roll. The decorations that we had up were streamers and balloons that were all yellow, green, and purple. We also had masks. (Not the ones that prevent you from getting sick.) They went over our eyes. We also made paper chains that were Mardi Gras colors. Our room was quite the sight!

In a Kings cake, there is a plastic baby placed somewhere inside. (The baby represents baby Jesus.) Whoever gets the baby in their slice of cake gets good luck for the year, and they also have to bring the cake to next year’s celebration. I really enjoyed the Mardi Gras party and the planning that went into it.
